Sony's Convergent Media Systems Establishes European Presence

09/23/2011
PARK RIDGE, N.J. – Convergent Media Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Electronics based in Alpharetta, Georgia, has launched a European division.  Sony acquired Convergent in 2009 as part of its worldwide business-to-business strategy of becoming a solutions-focused organization.

Convergent Europe builds on the success of its digital signage-as-a-service business model and opened operations earlier this summer, with its first office in the United Kingdom. It offers enterprise customers a global digital signage platform that is supported by a wide array of managed services, including content creation, content management, distribution, network monitoring, technical support and installation.

“The European digital signage and enterprise video markets are very fragmented, creating an enormous demand for our turnkey approach,” said Bryan Allen, Convergent CEO. “These projects are complex and many companies can benefit enormously by having a single service provider handle them.  Convergent will leverage its experience, innovation and creativity to provide end-to-end solutions to alleviate the issues that go with the multi-provider approaches that are all that have been available until now.”

Allen also noted that Greg Browning, Convergent’s senior vice president of sales, is leading Convergent Europe, operating out of the Sony Basingstoke office located about 50 miles southwest of London. A key part of the decision to base operations there is to help facilitate Browning’s close cooperation with the Sony Europe teams, particularly the solutions business operations located there.

Initially, Convergent’s network operation center in Georgia is being utilized in the expansion targeting retail and banking clients as well as sports venues. As the European client base expands, the technical infrastructure in Basingstoke will grow to mirror the Alpharetta facility.
